cPanel

cPanel is the linux based web hosting control panel. It provides a graphical interface and automation tools designed to simplified the process of hosting a site.

How to use cPanel?

To use cPanel with the File Manager. Follow the steps as follows

Step 1: Login in to your cPanel account from your browser. Give username and password provided by your web hosting service.

Step 2: Click the “File Manager” icon from the Main page. If prompted, Select the “web root” as your desired location, because this is where you need to place files to make them available Online.

Step 3: To create a new file, Click “New File” icon. Next create the front page on your website.  This file should be named as index or default.

Step 4: Save the file. Repeat the process to add more files. Remember to use hyperlinks to link between all your files. After you save an HTML file, you can select it from the cPanel File Manager and then click “HTML Editor” to use the software’s syntactical editor, which requires an existing HTML file.

Menus in cPanel

1. Files 

It includes some tools such as Backups, Backup Wizard, Legacy File Manager, File Manager, FTP accounts, FTP Session Control, FTP Tutorials, Backup restore, Anonymous FTP.

Backups – It allows you to download the entire site or either some part of your site to your local computer.

Backup Wizard – It allows you to create or restore the backup of your site.

Legacy File Manager – It offers file manipulation option in an older web based interface.

File Manager – It allows you to manage your site through HTTP rather than FTP tool. Using this you can upload, create, delete files in folder. Also you can change file access permission.

FTP accounts – It allows you to create, manage and delete separate FTP accounts. You need a third-party FTP program to access your files. Also using this you can define which directory should access the FTP file.

FTP Session Control – It allows to check who is currently logged in into your site.

FTP Tutorials – Using this you can learn how to use FTP and FTP client for uploading, downloading and managing files.

Backup restore – Using this you can restore the files, emails and database from the available backup of your account.

Anonymous FTP – It allows access of the anonymous FTP file without having a password to log in. It may be useful if you wish to  have the file which is publicly available for download.

2. Domains

Domains section you can manage the following things.

Subdomains – It allows you to add subdomains, addon, parked domains.

Addon domains – Add addon domains to your account

Parked domains – Add Parked domains to your account

Redirects – Using this, you can set the temporary or permanent redirect for your website to a separate one or from one file to another. Also you set wildcard redirect for all the files under the directory.

Domain Transfer – If you have your domain name with the following extension like .org, .com, .info, etc and if you wish to manage it more confidentially just change your domain name to any other site.

Register New Domain – If you need a new domain name for your site, just register through some site.

Domain Id Protect – Protect your privacy by hiding the WHOIS info for your domain name. With a Domain ID Protect you can hide your name and organization, living address, phone, email address, etc.

Domain Manager – Manage your domain DNS and WHOIS informations.

Primary Domain Change – You can change the primary domain name of your site into another new one.

Advanced DNS Zone Editor – It provides advanced option when editing the DNS zone.

Simple DNS Zone Editor – It is a simpler but efficient tool to manage DNS zone.

3. Mail

On Mail menu, you can create and delete an mail account and some more management available.

Email Account – It allows you to create email accounts, define passwords and quotas for them. Also you can separately manage email accounts for a chosen domain.

WebMail – It allows you to access web mail programs. You can read your email through a web browser

SpamAssassin – It is an automated email filtering system, that attempts to identify the spam messages based on the contents of the email header and body.

Forwarders – It allows you to send the copies of all your messages from one account to another account.

Auto Responders – It is used for setting auto responder email.

Default Address – It catches all the mails that are sent to the invalid mail address for your domain.

User Level Filtering – Manage the filters for each users.

Account Level Filtering – Manage the filters for the main account

Import Addresses / Forwarders – It allows you to import the email address or forwarders from the Excel or comma separated files(.csv).

MX Entry – Used to change the MX records for your domain. And also define on which server to deliver the messages.

email Authentication – It allows you to include additional details in the message headers. So they can be automatically recognized by the recipients as legitimate emails. Such techniques are the DKIM and SPF records.

Span Experts – It is an advanced spam prevention and production system.

4. Security 

cPanel security tools allow the customers to protect different parts of their web sites from unauthorized access.

Password Protect Directories – Using this, you can limit the access to certain resources of your website by password protecting the directories.

IP Deny Manager – It allows you to prevent the Ip address, domain name or range of the IP addresses from accessing your websites.

HotLink Protection – It allows you to prevent other websites from directly linking to the files on your websites.

Leech Protect – It allows you to prevent your users by giving out their passwords to the restricted area of your website. It will automatically redirect account to the your specified URL choice.

Site Security Check – Security is most important one for website. It is essential for public reputation, business growth and even for income. The automated Site Security Check verifies that your domain names are not marked as possible threats by Google Safe Browsing and similar tools.

5. Database

In Database menu, it allows you to create a MYSQL, PostgreSQL database and users, to modify database and access to them.
